HTC Desire Z

The announcement of the Desire HD has made heads turn and the experts are raving about it constantly. However, at the same time, another device by HTC is announced, which cannot be ignored as well. The device we are talking about is Desire Z. As a little brother of Desire HD, Z is impressive in its own terms. This one is a slider with QWERTY keyboard and features a full aluminium shell. The device looks gorgeous, it is easy to hold, and combines several high-end features that solely belongs to HTC. The handset appears quite similar to T-Mobile G2 because of its full QWERTY keyboard, but there are other prominent features of the mobile phone such as I Fi, 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7230 processor, HD video recorder, 5 mega pixel camera; and the Froyo, which is the latest version of Android™ operating system. We will discuss these features of the mobile phone in details on the later portion of the review. Though the mobile phone is yet to hit the market, but our experts have got a hands-on experience on it and here is the review.

HTC Desire Z – Display and Design

The display and the design of HTC Desire Z is definitely very attractive. However, if you compare the display of the phone with that of Desire HD, then you will find that the former has a smaller display screen. It is not insanely large, but still has 3.7 inches which is big enough. The biggest highlight of the phone that separates the look of Desire Z with Desire HD is the QWERTY keyboard. The way this QWERTY keyboard opens is really cool. Firstly, it lifts and then it slides down. Typing on this keyboard is easy and fast, and the users with long fingernail and fat thumb can also type quite smoothly. The keys are easy to press down as they are slightly raised, but you might find them a bit hard.

If the phone is not slid-opened, the majority of the display is covered by the large touch screen display. The type of this 3.7 inches display is S-LCD capacitive that comes with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and provides 16 million colours. Other prominent highlights of the display includes accelerometer sensor for UI auto rotate, proximity sensor for auto turn off, touch sensitive control panel, optical trackpad, multi touch input method, and HTC Sense UI.

HTC Desire Z – Network and Connectivity

The network and connectivity features must be rich in a smart phone, especially it is of a high stature like Desire Z. In terms of network support, the handset is supportive of both 2G and 3G networks. For 2G users, it provides the support of the quad band GSM 850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900; while for the 3G users, the handset supports HSDPA 1900/ 2100. With the presence of HSDPA, the Internet connectivity of the mobile phone is also good. The speed of HSDPA connectivity with HTC Desire Z can range up to 7.2 mbps. However, those areas where 3G connectivity is not supported, they can access high speed Internet with Wi-Fi® 802.11 b/g/n. As the phone runs on the latest version of Android™, the speed of Internet access is excellent. In addition to such a high speed connectivity, Class 10 GPRS and EDGE also provides good support. If you want to exchange or transfer data from the phone to other compatible deice, then you can do it by using microUSB and Bluetooth® v2.1.

HTC Desire Z – The Memory

There is not much a difference between the memory features of Desire HD and Desire Z. The internal memory of the both the mobile phone is 1.5 GB, which is more than enough to store practically unlimited entries of phone book and call records. However, HTC Desire Z is a high-end smart phone and hence this much of memory support might not be enough if you want to use the features of the mobile phone to its fullest potential. In that case, you can always increase the storage capacity by using the microSD™ card slot of the mobile phone. Desire Z is capable is expanding the memory up to 32 GB, which is quite impressive.

HTC Desire Z – The Camera

One of the prominent multimedia highlights of any mobile phone is the camera feature. Inclusion of a camera in a mobile phone comes as a great handy as one can take snaps on the go, without carrying a separate snapper. Moreover, the mobile phone manufacturers are using the high-end cameras in the latest handsets to lure more buyers. For example, Desire HD comes with a fabulous 8 mega pixel camera and it has already grabbed the eye balls. In comparison to that phone, camera feature might seem to be a bit downer, but still it is quite impressive. Desire Z features a 5 mega pixel camera with LED flash, auto focus, face detection, and geo tagging. The resolution of the snaps is 2592 x 1944 pixels and it can record videos at 720p. There is a secondary camera for video calling.

HTC Desire Z – Music and Videos

Just like the camera, music and video players are also among the most vital multimedia features of a mobile phone. There are several mobile phone users who spend a lot of time by listening to music or watching videos on their mobile phones. The users of HTC Desire Z can enjoy excellent quality of music by turning on the music player that can play MP3/ WAV/ AAC+ files; enjoy watching videos by streaming the MP4/ H.264 player. The music lovers can also tune in Stereo FM with RDS for more entertainment.

Therefore, the Desire Z has everything that can make it one of the best smart phones by HTC. However, we have to wait for October when this phone is expected to release in the UK market.
